Saturday, June 1
(Heavy rain postpones to June 2)

If you were privileged to attend the first annual GardensAround the West End, sponsored by the West End Civic Association (WECA), on Saturday, June 1, you participated in a self-guided tour showcasing 13 gardens in the West End neighborhood and visited gardens of all different types, talking with the gardeners, watching the artists as they captured the beauty of the gardens en plein air, and maybe caught a musical performance or poetry reading.

The tour, which suggested a donation but didn't require one, generated over two thousand dollars to support beautification and gardening projects in the West End. The colorful brochures prepared for GardensAround the West End by Andy Hart of Hartford News were distributed at Central Supermarket on Farmington Avenue and quickly became collector's items.

With landscape design by Richter and Cegan, this formal garden is known affectionately as "Pond-de-rosa."

The tour includes this mature perennial garden featuring peonies, irises, hostas, sedums and astilbe.
